Russell M. Nelson:

"It is important for you to know who you are and who you may become. It is more important than what you do, even as vital as your work is and will be."

Brené Brown:

“What we know matters but who we are matters more.”

Henri Nouwen:

"Spiritual identity means we are not what we do or what people say about us. And we are not what we have. We are the beloved daughters and sons of God."

WHO AM I?

This is the first question we ask ourselves as we seek to find meaning and purpose in our lives and discover where we fit in the world. At Discover Identity we believe that healthy foundational identity is both discovered and created.

Upon what foundation is your identity built?

When you answer that question, your identity becomes a strength that will serve you throughout your life, and will help you in turn bless the lives of others.

THE 21ST CENTURY CHALLENGE

We live in a dynamic time where our identities and our ability to form identity is challenged like never before. Technology has made the world smaller, with infinite choices, making our lives far more complex.

Unlike prior generations, our rapidly changing, highly diverse, and unstable world makes it much more challenging to discover, create, and maintain our foundational identity.

IDENTITY MATTERS MOW MORE THAN EVER!

The twentieth century has taught us, that tall buildings need both deep and flexible foundations that withstand the inevitable shifting of the earth. Likewise, our “modern world” has left us as individuals and a society vulnerable to the “loudest” voices or the latest trends.

We believe that lack of identity is the foundational problem in our world today. Until the missing self is found, we will be vulnerable to seismic shifts in culture, and turn repeatedly to false connections which typically provide escape and a false sense of self.

KNOWING OUR IDENTITY HELPS US:

  • Be secure in ourselves, despite the conflicting voices of our world today
  • Be more tolerant of identities that differ from our own
  • Build mature, healthy, intimate relationships
  • Serve others selflessly without neglecting ourselves
  • Withstand the inevitable challenges of life
  • Successfully navigate the transitions of life
  • Be confident in our decisions and relationships
  • Give our lives to God or a higher purpose
